whitehouse_frontPresident Barack Obama has appointed Shin Inouye as the White House official spokesperson to gay publications. This brings the total number of openly gay White House appointees to 19.

The Washington Blade Reports:

The White House announced Monday that President Obama has appointed a gay man to serve as its official spokesperson to gay publications.

Shin Inouye was appointed last week as director of specialty media for the White House. Prior to joining the White House staff, Inouye was spokesperson for specialty media at Obama’s presidential campaign and the Presidential Inaugural Committee. He previously was a communications director for Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and senior legislative communications associate at the D.C. legislative office for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Inouye applied for a job with the administration through the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute’s Presidential Appointments Project.
