Good news for gay candidates last night all across the country:

<p>Good news for gay candidates last night all across the country:</p>
<p>In Salisbury, Maryland, voters <a href="http://www.delmarvanow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200904080432/NEWS01/904080395">elected</a> the city&#8217;s first openly gay mayor Tuesday night.  Former city councilman Jim Ireton (pictured right), 39, won his race despite <a href="http://outragedrichard.com/home/">vile attacks</a> from local bloggers.</p>
<p>In Jacksonville, Illinois, Victory Fund candidate Scott Hall won his election to the city council.  <a href="http://www.smartbrief.com/news/lgbt/storyDetails.jsp?issueid=D507D05D-4044-446C-AF6E-C8253EF4C44C&amp;copyid=E88A88B2-4E47-49F3-A0DD-74D698A6AEB2">Hall said</a> voters gave him a warm reception throughout the campaign.</p>
<p>Victory endorsee Robert Garcia <a href="http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_12094555">won his race</a> for a seat on the Long Beach, California, city council.  The 31 year-old first-time candidate is a dean at Long Beach City College.</p>
<p>Shane Cohn, a Victory-endorsed candidate who <a href="http://www.gaypolitics.com/2009/03/03/st-louis/">won the decisive primary</a> in this race earlier, will become the first openly gay alderman in St. Louis, Missouri, after last night&#8217;s general election sealed his victory.</p>
<p>In Nebraska, Victory endorsee Barbara Baier advanced to the general election in her bid to retain her seat on the school board in Lincoln.  She is the state&#8217;s only openly LGBT elected official.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.voterinfonet.com/sub/candidate_memo.asp?cand_ID=50-0100-003*50-0100-0030104*9515">Margaret Paul</a> was elected alderman in the City of Berwyn, Illinois.</p>
