Mark Burstein, a former board chair of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, has been chosen as the 16th president of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc., joining a small but growing group of openly gay presidents of colleges and universities. Burstein is currently Executive Vice President of Princeton University.
“It’s no surprise that Lawrence chose someone so dedicated to helping people become the very best that they can be. At Victory, Mark worked hard to help LGBT leaders launch careers in public service, and that is paying great dividends today as these officials stand up for equality and fairness all across America,” said Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Victory Fund. ”We are thrilled for Mark and his husband, David, and for the entire Lawrence University community.”
Lawrence University, founded in 1847, is a residential college of liberal arts and sciences and a nationally recognized conservatory of music, both devoted exclusively to undergraduate education. For more information about Burstein and Lawrence University, go here.
