courtA transgender government employee who was fired from her job in the Georgia state legislature because her boss felt uncomfortable about her transitioning was the victim of unconstitutional sex-based discrimination, according to a ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

“We conclude that a government agent violates the Equal Protection Clause’s prohibition of sex-based discrimination when he or she fires a transgender or transsexual employee because of his or her gender non-conformity,” the court wrote.
