LGB or T? Learn how to run for office…and win
What’s so hard about running for office? Plenty–so it really helps to know how to build a winning campaign. That’s why dozens of openly LGBT future candidates and campaign workers will gather in Ft. Lauderdale February 25 to 28 for a Candidate and Campaign Training sponsored by the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute.
This is an intense, fascinating look at what it takes to run an effective campaign, especially if you’re openly LGB or T. Participants learn how to write a campaign plan that includes detailed work plans on fundraising, identifying supporters, mail programs, media outreach, get-out-the-vote efforts and a lot more.
Graduates of this training have gone on to win elections few thought were winnable. They include: Annise Parker, who was just elected mayor of Houston, Texas; Lupe Valdez, who has twice been elected sheriff of Dallas County, Texas; and Patricia Todd, who was the first openly LGBT elected official in Alabama.
