Democratic candidate Janelle Rettig, an open lesbian, won election to the Johnson County, Iowa Board of Supervisors in a special election last night.  She retains the seat after being appointed to it earlier in the year, and must run again to keep the seat this June.

Johnson County includes Iowa City, where two city council members and the city’s elected Recorder and Registrar are openly gay or lesbian.
