LGBT candidates, issues face U.S. voters Tuesday
Of the 77 openly LGBT candidates endorsed by the Victory Fund for 2009 races, 56 face voters tomorrow in a flurry of mostly municipal elections across the country. This is the the greatest number of out candidates ever endorsed by Victory in a non-federal election year. (Twenty-one candidates finished their races earlier in the year.)
Houston City Controller Annise Parker’s historic run for mayor, Simone Bell’s bid for a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, and city council races in Detroit and St. Petersburg, Fla. are among the milestone races GayPolitics.com be watching closely tomorrow night. Parker and Bell are aiming to earn spots in December runoff elections, which are all but certain to be necessary in those two races.
GayPolitics.com will be report updates on the voting in key LGBT-related ballot measures in Washington state (Ref. 71), Maine (Question 1) and Kalamazoo, Mich. (Ordinance 1856), and we’ll take a look at national trends as they emerge, so check in with us tomorrow for the latest.
