LINCOLN: Non-discrimination a “special right”
The Arkansas Times blogged yesterday about a letter Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) sent to a constituent regarding the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. In the letter, Sen. Lincoln expresses opposition to the bill by stating that the right to not be discriminated against in the workplace amounts to a “special right.”
The Arkansas Times reproduces the letter in part:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (S. 1584) which would prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. However, equal rights should not become special rights, and I appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts with me on this important issue.
