Gay lawmaker gets death threat over marriage stance
Iowa officials confirmed State Senator Matt McCoy, the legislature’s sole openly gay member, received a death threat via voice message at his private job. The threat came amidst a protest at the state capitol involving thousands of people opposed to marriage equality for same-sex couples.
The Des Moines Register reported:
Security was heavy at the Capitol again Monday as supporters of traditional marriage rallied outside the building, then came inside to lobby lawmakers. They want lawmakers to take steps against an April 3 Iowa Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in Iowa.
McCoy has been a vocal advocate of the Supreme Court ruling to legalize gay marriage.
