The Victory Fund has learned Kathy Martinez will be appointed to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy at the Department of Labor. Martinez, who is openly lesbian, is currently the executive director of the World Institute on Disability.
Blind since birth, Martinez is an internationally recognized disability rights leader. In 2002 she was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the National Council on Disability.
In 1997, Martinez helped stage the International Leadership Forum for Women with Disabilities, which attracted more than 600 participants from 80 countries.
