A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity claims that President-elect Barack Obama will name Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley a top member of his environmental protection team.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Sutley will likely be the chair of the Council on Environmental Quality, an entity which helps coordinate and devise environmental policies for the president.

During the 2008 presidential race, Sutley served as a member of Hillary Clinton’s LGBT steering committee. She now serves as deputy mayor for energy and development in Los Angeles, as well as on the board for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Sutley is the first prominent member of the LGBT community that Obama has named to a senior role in his administration.
