For example: surveys show that majority of Americans believe that the government has no place interfering in right of people to get married interracially. This is very different than saying majority of Americans approve of interracial marriage which is certainly not the case. As lifelong civil rights and liberties activist -- including GLBT before and at "Stonewall Rebellion" -- I think that conclusion is more than bit optimistic to be generous. Given admitted obstacles in election to Congress of GLBTs such as Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin, I think that study derivatves are more than little naive. Surveys show that majority of Americans may support same sex marriage for which I began testifying more than 20 years ago. Such favor has resulted in what: DOMA, numerous state laws & untold opp initiatives. Overwhelming majority of Americans have no objection to idea of Black, Female or Jewish high office holders including President of United States. Look at number of Jewish Attorneys General, Female Supreme Court Justices & widely supported Black Pres candidates. We will know that America has arrived when elected to the Presidency of United States is a Black, Lesbian of the Jewish faith with physical & emotional disabilities! I believe that day may come, but not for long, long time.
