I am disappointed by your reactionary blog post. This does absolutely nothing to help anyone. Why can't you *help* local volunteers and let *us* contact our governor? Do you think we're just this pathetic to not be able to lead ourselves? I'm sure every LGBT political organizer in the state would appreciate your help, but contacting the governor like this is not help. It is assuming we are unable to work our own politics. This is our home; please do not be disturbing it without us.

Aside from the word "agenda," I find Finney's robocall to be pretty neutral as far as the issue of Taylor's sexuality is concerned. She could have phrased it better, however. As for the e-mail and phone calls from Peggy Elliott, Finney had not approved the text of the messages or approved them going out at all. Her campaign was not responsible for those.

The robocalls sent out by Taylor, on the other hand, made a big point of Finney being supported by "Big Oil," and other bugaboos, when, in fact, Finney had received a few donations from Kansas PACs that have supported Democratic candidates for many years.

There is plenty of ammunition for both sides to start a political war over this race. Fortunately, most people in the local party have a balanced view of gay issues. We have supported gay candidates before, and members of the two local gay groups are prominent in the party. In fact, the executive director of our party headquarters, who you could say runs the party or at least most party activities, is an openly gay man.

Finally, I would like to report that the Kansas LGBT Caucus and the Kansas Equality Caucus are both upset with the methods the Victory Fund used in supporting Taylor. They believe that the money could have been contributed -- and spent -- more wisely. The sad thing is that those two Kansas groups are now being represented as ineffective, when they are important participants in state party activities.
