I cannot agree that Sally Kern has the right to use her position as a platform to say what she likes in the name of free speech. As a victim of a violent hate crime, that was committed by three individuals that felt like they had a moral right to beat me close to death, I say NO there is no nobility in allowing hate and lies to be spread on a public platform, its an obvious abuse of power. Tolerating such hate is not understanding, it’s saying ‘OK’ I don’t agree, but it’s your right. Just as it was not the right of the 3 criminals to beat me for kissing my date goodnight, it’s not the right of any public official to spread hate. She needs to be held accountable, and prove the so-called ‘facts’ she professed to know. She needs to be held publicly accountable for her ignorance. Understand the people who commit these crimes are not reasonable people, they will use any reason to hate, beat, and kill; it’s got to stop some place.
It’s been six years since I was beaten for being gay, in that time I hear more and more often that’s it’s people’s right to say what they like, it hurts to hear that justification as much now as it did when the responding officer asked me “ did you do some thing gay “. My response is the same now as it was then, ‘yes, I’m gay, I don’t think about not being gay’.

There's very little if any difference between what inbred hillbilly Kern said and when more high-toned politicans say, "I believe that marriage is only between a man and a woman." Both, if you think about it, encourage hatred. One is more obvious, one is less obvious. But both are built on the notion that gays and lesbians are less than human. Want proof I'm right? Right after Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act (in a midnight private signing, no ceremony), he issued a statement saying that he wanted to make it clear that the signing was not an excuse for violence against gays and lesbians. Aha! So he knew what he did could easily be construed as hateful. I don't see a dime's worth of difference between signing off on DOMA (and for that matter, Don't Ask/Don't Tell) and Kern comparing gays and lesbians to cancer and terrorists. Actually, not a nickel's worth.

It's great that the organizations like Victory Fund are able to get the message out in cases like this. The msm are so weak, the ones that are not out-and-out biased. I heartily agree with Judy Shepard's statement that we're not denying Kern her free speech - its Kern's words coming back to haunt her. But at what point do words like Kern's go past the point of free speech to incitement of violence against our community? As history shows this is not an idle musing.
