This re-launching of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund’s blog is an attempt to highlight the intersection of politics and the LGBT movement. We’ll provide news coverage, interviews and commentaries on political news pertinent to the community as well as highlight the accomplishments of openly gay public officials and political candidates. Sadly, this will leave precious little time to discuss what body parts Britney is flashing this week, but there are other blogs that are better equipped to handle that subject matter.

Here are some examples of stories we’ll be highlighting:

• Benjamin Cruz recently won his race to become Guam’s first LGBT legislator. His win marks Victory’s first success in a U.S. territory (but hopefully not last – watch your back, Midway Islands!).
• Victory President Chuck Wolfe begins a search for openly LGBT candidates for a new Presidential Appointments Project.
• In Cambridge, Massachusetts, Denise Simmons was voted in as mayor by her peers on the City Council. This makes her the first openly lesbian African American to be the mayor of a U.S. city.

This blog won’t simply be a series of posts shilling for candidate donations (although there might be a little bit of that from time to time – can’t blame a progressive nonprofit for trying). We just hope to keep you in the loop on out politicians as well as serve as a resource for commentaries on timely issues connected to LGBT politics.
