The Central Committee of the Franklin County, Ohio Republicans has voted to endorse Bill Brownson, a Log Cabin Republicans activist, for a spot on the Columbus City Council. “I think he’s a quality guy and I think he’s the kind of guy we’d like on the ballot as an alternative for the voters to choose amongst on City Council,” said Bill Todd, a Republican mayoral candidate. The White House must be pleased that it has won its fight to block any federal money from being used for the District of Columbia’s domestic partner registry. The registry allows unmarried couples, including same-sex couples, to designate a domestic partner for such apparently scandalous reasons as hospital visitation rights, medical decision-making and nursing home visitation. Still, the White House couldn’t have prevailed without the help of Democrats in the House. John Aravosis names them at AMERICAblog.
Pam’s House Blend is reporting on a new low for the Bush administration and its treatment of LGBT citizens. For years the government of the District of Columbia has had an established, controversy-free domestic partner registry for same-sex couples. Now the Bush White House wants to rip it up. HRC blogger Chris Johnson writes of Bush: “When in trouble, he opts to bash the gays.”
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign announced today the formation of an LGBT steering committee made up of “LGBT elected officials, activists from national LGBT and Democratic Party political groups as well as leaders from the worlds of business, entertainment and sports.”
